Addressing a joint session of Parliament, President Murmu highlighted the ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare infrastructure across the nation, including the establishment of 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras. These kendras play a crucial role in making affordable generic medicines accessible to all citizens.
Under the AB-PMJAY initiative, which currently provides coverage to 55 crore beneficiaries, eligible families receive health insurance cover of ₹5 lakh per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalizations. The scheme aims to support 12 crore families across India.
President Murmu emphasized, “Now every elderly person above 70 years of age will also be covered and get the benefit of free treatment under Ayushman Bharat Yojana.” This extension is expected to significantly benefit elderly citizens who often face increased healthcare needs.
The Ayushman Bharat scheme, known for its comprehensive coverage and ambitious goals, continues to evolve with the recent inclusion of free healthcare for senior citizens. The Government’s commitment to healthcare under AB-PMJAY underscores its efforts to ensure equitable access to quality medical services across the country.
