“Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Makes Historic State Visit to Egypt, Strengthening Bilateral Relations”

Cairo, Egypt – Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India has embarked on a momentous state visit to Egypt, marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 26 years. This visit comes after a successful trip to the United States, where PM Modi engaged in various high-level meetings and events, including a meeting with Tesla CEO Elon Musk and a state dinner hosted by President Joe Biden.

Upon his arrival in Cairo, PM Modi received a warm ceremonial welcome and a guard of honour. Most notably, he was personally received by his Egyptian counterpart, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, at the airport, highlighting the significance and warmth of the bilateral relations between the two nations.

The visit to Egypt was extended as an invitation by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, following his attendance as the chief guest during India’s Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi earlier this year. It is Prime Minister Modi’s inaugural visit to Egypt since assuming office.

During his two-day stay from June 24 to 25, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to engage in several crucial engagements. A roundtable meeting with Prime Minister Madbouly will take place, allowing both leaders to discuss and strengthen bilateral ties. Additionally, PM Modi will have an audience with President El-Sisi to further deepen the political understanding and cooperation between the two nations.

In an effort to connect with the Indian diaspora in Egypt, Prime Minister Modi will also interact with the Indian community, providing a platform to address their concerns and strengthen their ties with the homeland.

As part of his itinerary, PM Modi will meet with Dr Shawki Ibrahim Abdel-Karim Allam, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, and engage with Egyptian thought leaders. This exchange of ideas aims to foster cultural understanding and promote dialogue on matters of mutual interest.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi will visit the historic Al-Hakim Mosque, named after the influential 16th Fatimid caliph. This momentous visit holds great cultural significance, offering an opportunity for PM Modi to appreciate the rich heritage and deep-rooted history of Egypt.

The visit also pays homage to the brave Indian soldiers who fought for Egypt during World War I. PM Modi will visit the Heliopolis War Grave cemetery, where he will pay tribute to these fallen heroes, underscoring the shared sacrifices made by both nations.

Egypt holds a vital position as one of India’s key trading partners in the African continent. The bilateral trade agreement between India and Egypt, in operation since 1978, emphasizes the importance of economic cooperation and mutual growth. The visit by PM Modi seeks to strengthen these economic ties and explore new avenues for collaboration.

Moreover, India and Egypt share a long-standing history of contact and cooperation, which extends to regional and global issues. This visit serves as a platform for both nations to reinforce their close political understanding and reaffirm their commitment to working together on global challenges.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Egypt marks a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between the two nations. The trip is expected to pave the way for enhanced cooperation in various sectors, including trade, culture, and diplomacy, strengthening the bond between India and Egypt for the years to come.
