In a recent interaction with the Indian diaspora in Malaysia, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted the crucial role of traditional troop deployment in achieving normalcy in bilateral relations between India and China. Jaishankar’s remarks underscored India’s firm stance on border security and the need for a stable foundation for diplomatic ties.
Jaishankar emphasized that securing India’s borders is a top priority, stating, “My first duty to Indians is to secure the border. I can never compromise on that.” He acknowledged the desire for good relations with neighbors but stressed the necessity of such relationships being built on a solid basis.
The External Affairs Minister disclosed ongoing negotiations with China at various levels, including discussions between military commanders. However, he reiterated India’s position on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), emphasizing the importance of returning to traditional troop deployment as the basis for moving forward in the relationship.
