Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been ranked as the third richest Chief Minister in India, according to the latest report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), released on Monday. The report, which provides an overview of the financial standings of the country’s Chief Ministers, reveals that Siddaramaiah has assets worth ₹52.59 crore. He follows Andhra Pradesh CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who tops the list with assets valued at ₹931 crore, and Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu, who holds the second position with assets worth ₹332 crore.
In terms of liabilities, Siddaramaiah is ranked second, with outstanding liabilities amounting to ₹23 crore. Pema Khandu is the only CM with higher liabilities, totaling ₹180 crore, while Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s liabilities stand at ₹10 crore.
The report also highlights the details of Siddaramaiah’s 2023 election affidavit, in which he declared assets worth over ₹51 crore for his family. His movable assets include bank deposits and financial instruments amounting to over ₹7 crore, investments in bonds, debentures, and shares valued at ₹2.42 crore, as well as jewellery worth around ₹97 lakh. Additionally, Siddaramaiah owns immovable assets exceeding ₹30.61 crore, comprising agricultural land, non-agricultural land, and residential properties.
Despite his financial standing, Siddaramaiah’s political career has not been without controversy. His affidavit also revealed liabilities surpassing ₹23 crore, primarily consisting of loans and other financial obligations. Moreover, he is currently embroiled in allegations related to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam, which has brought additional scrutiny to his leadership.
The ADR report also sheds light on the criminal records of several Chief Ministers. Out of the 13 CMs who have declared criminal cases against themselves, 10 have disclosed serious criminal charges, including those related to murder, kidnapping, bribery, and criminal intimidation. These revelations have sparked concerns over transparency and accountability in the country’s political leadership.
With Siddaramaiah’s financial disclosures coming to light, along with the ongoing investigations into his alleged involvement in corruption, the political landscape in Karnataka and beyond remains under intense scrutiny.
