Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah conducted a thorough inspection of various infrastructure projects in Bengaluru on Thursday, including a visit to the under-construction Hebbal junction flyover and the KR Puram-Silk Board metro line. His visit highlights the state’s ongoing efforts to improve urban mobility and address traffic congestion in the city.
Siddaramaiah began his day by reviewing the progress of the Hebbal junction flyover, a crucial project aimed at alleviating one of Bengaluru’s most notorious traffic bottlenecks. The Chief Minister was informed by Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) officials that the flyover’s construction is expected to be completed by December. Once operational, the flyover will facilitate smoother entry and exit into the city, significantly easing traffic flow.
Following the Hebbal inspection, Siddaramaiah traveled to KR Puram, where he assessed the development of the KR Puram-Silk Board metro line. This new metro line, anticipated to be launched next year, is set to enhance connectivity along the Outer Ring Road and reduce traffic congestion during peak hours. Metro officials updated the Chief Minister on the project’s status, emphasizing its importance for improving public transportation in the city.
During his visit, Siddaramaiah also took the opportunity to address other urban issues. He directed Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials to address the city’s pothole problem promptly. A budget of ₹1,700 crore has been allocated for white-topping damaged roads, with the goal of making Bengaluru pothole-free. This initiative aligns with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s earlier directive to fill all potholes within 15 days. The BBMP has identified 2,795 potholes, with an estimated cost of ₹660 crore for repairs. Shivakumar noted a reduction in public inconvenience due to recent rains compared to previous years.
In a notable gesture, Siddaramaiah traveled by metro from KR Puram to Vidhana Soudha, interacting with commuters and showcasing the convenience of the city’s expanding metro network. His actions underscore the government’s commitment to improving Bengaluru’s infrastructure and public transportation systems.
