Kerala School Clash Turns Fatal: Class 10 Student Dies After Nunchuck Attack

A 15-year-old student succumbed to severe head injuries following a clash involving a martial arts weapon, a nunchuck, in Kerala’s Kozhikode district. The incident, which occurred near a private tuition center in Thamarassery on Thursday, has led to the arrest of five students on murder charges.

The deceased, identified as Muhammed Shahabas, was a Class 10 student at MJ Higher Secondary School. He had been undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital, where he was in a coma until he passed away.

Clash Over Farewell Party Turns Deadly

According to authorities, the fight stemmed from an argument at a farewell party held at a tuition center. The altercation escalated into a physical fight around 5 PM on February 23, during which a nunchuck was allegedly used as a weapon.

Following the attack, Shahabas fled to a nearby mall instead of going home. He later left the area on a motorcycle with a companion but started vomiting during the ride. Despite his worsening condition, he did not seek immediate medical help and instead spent the night at a friend’s house before returning home.

His condition deteriorated further the next day, prompting his family to take him to Thamarassery Taluk Hospital. Initially, doctors did not detect the severity of his injuries. However, as his health worsened, he was shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, where he remained in critical condition before passing away.

Murder Case Filed Against Five Students

Following the tragic incident, the Kozhikode Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) KE Baiju confirmed that a murder case has been registered against five Class 10 students from Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Thamarassery.

The students have been taken into custody and will be presented before the Juvenile Justice Board for further proceedings. Meanwhile, General Education Minister V Sivankutty has directed the Director of General Education to launch a departmental inquiry into the incident.

The shocking incident has sparked concerns over student violence and the misuse of weapons among teenagers. Authorities are now investigating how the students obtained the martial arts weapon and whether there were any previous conflicts leading to the attack.
