Manish Sisodia, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, has been granted bail by the Supreme Court in connection with alleged corruption cases related to the Delhi liquor policy. Following his release after 17 months of incarceration, Sisodia took to social media to express his sentiments.
In his first post since his release, Sisodia shared a picture of himself enjoying tea with his wife, which he captioned as “first tea on the morning of independence.” The post, made on X (formerly Twitter), read, “First tea on the morning of independence…..after 17 months! The freedom that the Constitution has given to all of us Indians as a guarantee of the right to life.” He further reflected on the personal freedom he now enjoys, stating, “The freedom that God has given us to breathe in the open air with everyone.”
Sisodia’s bail comes at a crucial time for the AAP, ahead of the assembly elections in Haryana and Delhi. The party views his release as a significant boost to their campaign and a setback to efforts aimed at discrediting the party. The Supreme Court’s decision, which allows Sisodia to be released while awaiting trial, underscores the court’s stance against indefinite detention.
Sisodia’s legal troubles began with his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26, 2023, followed by his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate less than two weeks later. Both agencies had linked him to alleged corruption related to the Delhi liquor policy. His release, following a Supreme Court ruling, marks a pivotal moment for both him and his party as they prepare for upcoming electoral challenges.
