An army soldier, identified as Javed Ahmad Wani, who had gone missing from his native Kulgam district in Kashmir, has been recovered by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The police made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) and stated that a joint interrogation will take place following a medical checkup of the soldier.
Javed Ahmad Wani, in his late 20s, disappeared near his home in south Kashmir’s Kulgam on July 29. The soldier was on leave and preparing to return to his duties in Ladakh the following day. According to his family and police officials, he had left his home in Asthal, Kulgam, to buy some food items when he went missing.
His car was found abandoned a short distance away from his home, with blood stains, as reported by his family. His brother, Mudasir Ahmad Wani, mentioned, “He left for the market at 7.30 pm, and after some time, we found his car with blood marks. One of his slippers and a cap were also there.”
Javed Ahmad Wani had come home to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha and had been on leave since June 29. The family feared that he might have been kidnapped by militants. As a result, security forces launched an extensive search operation in Kulgam and the surrounding areas.
During the manhunt, several individuals were questioned, and their call details were examined in an effort to locate the missing soldier.
Meanwhile, Javed’s father, Mohammad Ayoub Wani, made a heartfelt appeal to those who may have been involved in his son’s disappearance to release him unharmed. “I appeal to all the brothers to let him go alive. If he has troubled anyone, I apologize for that. If they want, I will get him to quit his job as well,” he expressed to reporters.
The recovery of Javed Ahmad Wani by the Jammu and Kashmir Police has brought some relief to his worried family and raised hopes of resolving the mysterious case. The joint interrogation, scheduled to occur after a medical checkup, aims to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the soldier’s disappearance and provide answers to the concerned authorities.
