“Nirmala Sitharaman Prioritizes Cervical Cancer Prevention with Vaccination Focus in Interim Budget Address”

Government Prioritizes Cervical Cancer Prevention in Interim Budget; Focus on Healthcare Expansion

In a significant announcement during the interim budget speech, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman underscored the government’s commitment to prioritize cervical cancer prevention by encouraging vaccination for girls aged 9 to 14 years. Presenting the interim budget for 2024 in the Lok Sabha, Sitharaman outlined key initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare services and coverage.

“Our government will encourage vaccination for girls in the age group of 9-14 years to prevent cervical cancer,” stated Sitharaman, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures in combating this prevalent health concern.

Addressing the need for improved medical infrastructure, Sitharaman announced plans to establish more medical colleges, utilizing existing hospital infrastructure across various departments. A committee will be formed to examine pertinent issues and provide recommendations in this regard, aiming to support the aspirations of youth aspiring to qualify as doctors.

Sitharaman also highlighted the extension of health coverage under the Ayushman Bharat scheme to all ASHA and Anganwadi workers and helpers. The comprehensive approach includes amalgamating various schemes for maternal and child care into one cohesive program for more effective implementation.

The Finance Minister further disclosed plans for the expedited upgradation of anganwadi centers under “Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0,” focusing on improved nutrition delivery, early childhood care, and development.

To bolster immunization efforts, Sitharaman introduced the newly designed U-WIN platform for managing immunization and the intensified efforts of Mission Indradhanush, which will be rolled out expeditiously nationwide.

The ‘Ayushman Bhav’ initiative, a holistic healthcare plan, aims to saturate healthcare services in every village or town, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to ensuring access to healthcare services for every citizen. The initiative includes various interventions such as ‘Ayushman – Apke Dwar 3.0,’ ‘Ayushman Sabhas,’ ‘Ayushman Melas’ at Health and Wellness Levels, and Medical Camps by Medical Colleges at CHCs.

The announcement reflects the government’s proactive stance on public health, focusing on preventive measures and healthcare accessibility to create a healthier and more resilient society.
