Noida Man Dies in Drain Accident While Going to Wedding; GPS Navigation Suspected

A tragic incident occurred in Greater Noida on Saturday, where a 31-year-old man lost his life after his car plunged into a 30-feet-deep drain. The deceased, identified as Bharat Singh, a resident of Mandawali in Delhi and a station master by profession, was on his way to attend a wedding when the accident happened. While locals suggested that incorrect GPS navigation might have led to the mishap, police have stated that there is no concrete evidence to support this claim as Singh’s mobile phone has not yet been recovered.

    Incident Details

According to the police, the accident took place at Sector P4 of Greater Noida near the Kendriya Vihar area on March 1. The authorities were informed about the incident around 3:30 pm. Upon arrival, they found Singh’s car submerged in the drain. His body was later retrieved with the help of a crane.

    Possible Causes and Local Reactions

While the exact cause of the accident remains unclear, locals have pointed out the absence of warning signs at the end of the road as a potential factor. They claimed that people relying on GPS navigation often get confused, which could have contributed to the accident. However, the police have not confirmed whether navigation errors played a role, citing the lack of Singh’s phone for verification.

Nikhil, a friend of Singh, shared that he was informed about the incident by the police and rushed to the scene from Delhi. Despite efforts by bystanders and delivery personnel to rescue Singh, he could not be saved.

Saurabh, a delivery boy who witnessed the accident, stated that Singh’s car was moving at a high speed before it plunged into the drain. He added that locals attempted to help, but the overturned car was filled with water, making rescue efforts difficult.

    Concerns Over Road Safety

This incident has sparked concerns over road safety in the area. Locals have urged authorities to install proper warning signs near the drain to prevent similar accidents in the future. Many believe that unmarked dead ends and misleading navigation apps have been contributing factors to such mishaps.

While an investigation is ongoing, police have advised motorists to drive cautiously, especially in unfamiliar areas. Authorities are expected to review the safety measures in place to avoid further tragedies on this stretch of road.
