“Over Two Years, Delhi Police Recover Six Pistols and 60+ Rounds of Ammunition from Metro Network: RTI”

In a concerning revelation about the security situation in the Delhi Metro, the Delhi Police have seized six pistols, including five country-made ones, and over 60 rounds of ammunition over the course of two years and three months. This alarming data was unveiled through an RTI (Right to Information) response.

The RTI report indicated that between January 2022 and March 2024, the Delhi Police’s Metro Unit recovered 16 bullets, 31 cartridges, and 14 live cartridges at various Metro stations across the city. These findings underscore ongoing security challenges within one of the busiest public transportation systems in India.

The report further highlights a notable increase in the recovery of firearms in 2024, with the police seizing four pistols, including three country-made weapons. This marks a significant rise compared to 2023, when only one country-made pistol was recovered. However, the number of ammunition seizures has seen a decline, from 30 ammunition items in 2023 to 12 bullets and four live cartridges in 2024.

Security measures have been ramped up to ensure commuter safety, with a senior police official explaining that these actions are part of efforts to prevent any untoward incidents in the Metro network. “We have heightened security and are making sure that no criminal activity takes place in the Delhi Metro. We want to ensure the security of all the commuters and provide them a safe environment,” the official stated.

These recoveries, particularly the firearms, underscore the importance of continuing and enhancing security protocols in the Delhi Metro, which serves millions of passengers every day. Despite a slight decrease in ammunition seizures, the uptick in firearms indicates the need for ongoing vigilance in the face of potential security threats.

The Delhi Police’s proactive measures aim to deter criminal activities and maintain public trust in the Metro system’s safety, especially as the city faces increasing security concerns in various sectors.
