Passenger Discovers Insects in Sambhar on Vande Bharat Train; Railways Responds

Passenger Finds Insects in Sambhar on Vande Bharat Train, Railways Takes Action

A passenger aboard a Vande Bharat train traveling from Tirunelveli to Chennai encountered an unpleasant experience when he discovered insects in the sambhar served as part of his meal. A video showing black insects floating in an aluminum container of sambhar quickly went viral on social media, raising concerns over food hygiene and safety on premium train services.

Passengers on the train praised the overall service but expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the food provided. Congress MP Manickam Tagore shared the video on X (formerly Twitter) and called for accountability, questioning the steps being taken to ensure food safety on these trains.

“Passengers have raised concerns over hygiene and IRCTC’s accountability. What steps are being taken to address this and ensure food safety on premium trains?” he wrote.

    Railways Responds Promptly

The Indian Railways took immediate action following the complaint. Officials conducted an investigation at the Dindigul station, where the food package was handed over to a health inspector. The inquiry revealed that the insect was stuck on the lid of the food package.

In response, the railways fined the service provider ₹50,000 and reiterated their commitment to ensuring food quality and addressing passenger complaints swiftly.

    Previous Incidents Raise Concerns

This is not the first instance of food-related complaints on a Vande Bharat train. Earlier, a passenger reported finding a cockroach in his meal, sparking similar outrage online.

    Hallmarks of Vande Bharat Trains

Vande Bharat trains are celebrated for their high-speed capabilities, enhanced safety standards, and world-class service. As part of the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, these trains are designed to provide a superior travel experience. However, repeated food-related complaints have raised questions about maintaining consistent service standards.

    The Way Forward

The railways assured passengers that measures are being taken to address food hygiene issues and ensure accountability among service providers. As the Vande Bharat service expands, maintaining high standards of safety and quality remains a priority for authorities.
