Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the tragic loss of civilian lives amid the Israel-Hamas conflict, urging solidarity and cooperation among Global South nations. Speaking at the inaugural session of the 2nd Voice of Global South Summit, Modi reiterated India’s commitment to combat violence and terrorism while emphasizing the need for dialogue in resolving conflicts.
Addressing the escalating tensions in West Asia due to the Israel-Hamas conflict, PM Modi denounced the terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7 and stressed India’s stance of restraint, emphasizing dialogue and diplomacy as pivotal in conflict resolution.
“We have condemned the terrorist attack in Israel on October 7 and prioritized dialogue and diplomacy. The deaths of civilians in the conflict between Israel and Hamas are strongly condemned,” stated Prime Minister Modi, underscoring India’s efforts towards humanitarian aid by sending support to Palestine following discussions with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Highlighting the significance of unity among Global South nations, Modi emphasized that this is a critical juncture for these countries to come together for the greater global good.
The Global South comprises nations across Asia, Africa, and South America, facing common challenges such as poverty and limited resources despite varying economic development levels.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has led to over 1,200 Israeli civilian casualties and more than 11,000 deaths in Gaza, prompting calls for a collaborative approach guided by the ‘five Cs’ principles: consultation, communication, cooperation, creativity, and capacity building.
Additionally, PM Modi reflected on India’s presidency of the G20 in 2023, noting the historic moment when India facilitated the inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member of the G20, marking a significant step toward inclusive global economic governance.
