India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, graced the 11th grand Ramleela celebration organized by the Shri Ramleela Society in Dwarka Sector 10 on Tuesday, marking the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashmi, or Dussehra. During his address to the public, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the significance of Dussehra, symbolizing the victory of good over evil, and expressed his delight in witnessing the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
The event began with the ceremonial burning of the effigy of Ravana at the Ram Leela Maidan, and Prime Minister Modi, the chief guest, was welcomed traditionally with a shawl, a statue of Ram Durbar, and a mace. In his address, he extended warm wishes to the people of India on the occasion of Navratri and Vijayadashami, emphasizing the festival’s symbolic victory of goodness over malevolence.
Addressing the momentous construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his joy, saying, “Today, we are fortunate to see the Lord Ram Temple being constructed on Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya after a long wait. It is a sign of victory of our patience.” The construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has been a historic and emotionally charged endeavor for many Indians.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi took to social media to extend his greetings for Vijaya Dashami. He emphasized the significance of this holy festival, marking the end of negative forces and the embrace of goodness in life, stating, “This holy festival brings the message of ending negative forces as well as adopting goodness in life.”
The event drew attendees from across the country, with Bharatiya Janata Party leader Parvesh Sahib Singh expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for accepting their invitation to the celebration. He noted the significance of the Prime Minister’s presence, especially since his last visit in 2019.
Given the grandeur of the event, the Delhi Police heightened security measures for the Ravana Dahan ceremony. Deputy Commissioner of Police Joy Tirkey announced that around 1,000 police personnel and additional forces had been deployed throughout the city. Elaborate arrangements were made to ensure fire safety, traffic management, and public safety during the burning of Ravana effigies. Firecrackers were banned, and more than 100 kg of them were seized by the police in the run-up to the celebrations.
Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, marks the culmination of Navaratri and is celebrated with fervor throughout India. It commemorates Lord Rama’s victory over the demon king Ravana after a nine-day battle, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. Additionally, it signifies the victory of Maa Durga over the demon Mahishasur in Hindu mythology.
As Dussehra celebrations continue across the nation, Prime Minister Modi’s presence at the Ram Leela Maidan serves as a unifying symbol of cultural and religious significance, reinforcing the importance of the Ram Temple construction as a historic moment for India.
