“PM Modi Reaffirms India’s Consistent Stance in Conversation with Palestinian President”

PM Modi Reiterates India's Position on Israel-Palestine, Pledges Humanitarian Aid

In the midst of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India has reemphasized the country’s steadfast position on the Israel-Palestine issue. During a conversation with Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas, PM Modi expressed condolences for the loss of civilian lives at the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza. India has pledged to continue sending humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people who have been affected by the ongoing violence.

This communication between the leaders comes at a critical juncture in the Israel-Hamas conflict, which erupted following an unexpected offensive by Hamas into Israel on October 7.

In a tweet, PM Modi stated, “Spoke to the President of the Palestinian Authority H.E. Mahmoud Abbas. Conveyed my condolences at the loss of civilian lives at the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza. We will continue to send humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people. Shared our deep concern at the terrorism, violence, and deteriorating security situation in the region. Reiterated India’s long-standing principled position on the Israel-Palestine issue.”

India’s stance on the Israel-Palestine issue has been a subject of debate, particularly after Prime Minister Modi expressed solidarity with Israel and held discussions with Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu earlier. This gesture raised questions about India’s official position on the long-standing conflict.

India has maintained strategic diplomatic ties with both Israel and Palestine. In 2017, India voted against the United States and Israel when they declared Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reiterated India’s commitment to supporting the establishment of a sovereign, independent, and viable state of Palestine.

MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi stated, “India always advocated the resumption of direct negotiations towards establishing a sovereign, independent, and viable state of Palestine, living within secure and recognized borders, side by side at peace with Israel. I think that position remains the same.”

India’s stance on the conflict is characterized by support for a two-state solution and the recognition of both Israel and Palestine as independent and sovereign entities. However, India has also made it clear that it stands firmly against terrorism and has condemned the recent Hamas attacks on Israel.

Prime Minister Modi’s recent communications with both Palestine and Israel demonstrate India’s commitment to peace and stability in the region, with a focus on humanitarian assistance for those affected by the ongoing conflict. The situation remains complex, and India continues to work towards a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Palestine issue.
