Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the ‘Surat Diamond Bourse,’ recognized as the world’s largest corporate office hub, signaling a significant milestone in India’s diamond industry. Scheduled for unveiling on Sunday, the Surat Diamond Bourse stands as a testament to Surat’s dynamic growth and entrepreneurial spirit, according to the Prime Minister’s prior remarks in July.
Constructed on an expansive 35.54-acre expanse at a cost of ₹3400 crore, the Surat Diamond Bourse is poised to become a global nucleus for rough and polished diamond trading, contributing substantially to trade, innovation, and economic expansion.
The SDB boasts an impressive 67 lakh square feet of floor space, making it the world’s largest office complex, strategically positioned at Khajod village near Surat city. This colossal edifice, surpassing the Pentagon in size, accommodates over 4,500 interconnected offices and stands as the country’s largest customs clearance house.
Notably, the Surat Diamond Bourse is designed to accommodate 4,200 traders representing 175 countries, converging in Surat for the procurement of polished diamonds. This global congregation of traders is poised to elevate Surat’s status as a premier destination for diamond trade.
The far-reaching impact of this colossal workspace extends beyond trade, promising employment opportunities for approximately 1.5 lakh individuals. With the facilitation of a global platform for diamond trading, Surat is poised to emerge as a pivotal center for buyers worldwide.
Moreover, PM Modi is also slated to inaugurate the newly-upgraded terminal building at the Surat airport during his visit, underscoring the region’s infrastructural advancements and aligning with the government’s focus on bolstering trade and connectivity across the nation.
