A distressing incident unfolded at a police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh when a woman, identified as Ishrat, was accidentally shot in the head by a police officer. The shocking incident occurred while Ishrat was present for her passport verification, awaiting her turn when a police officer, while handling a gun, inadvertently fired a shot that critically injured her.
The incident, captured on camera, showed Ishrat standing with a man when the officer, who had been handed the gun by a colleague, accidentally discharged the weapon. The bullet struck Ishrat, causing her to collapse immediately.
Ishrat was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, where medical professionals are attending to her. The authorities have reported that the incident took place around 2:50 pm, and the accused officer, identified as Inspector Manoj Sharma, is currently missing.
According to allegations made by the woman’s family, she had been facing harassment for money from the officer responsible for her passport verification. The altercation reportedly escalated, leading to the tragic shooting.
Confirming the incident, Kalanidhi Naithani, SSP of Aligarh, declared Inspector Manoj Sharma’s suspension due to negligence. A criminal case has been filed against him, and investigations are underway based on the footage of the incident.
Expressing concern over the incident, Naithani assured strict action against the accused officer and mentioned the formation of teams to probe the matter thoroughly.
The injured woman was aiming to visit Saudi Arabia for Umrah, a religious pilgrimage, further underscoring the urgency and gravity of the situation.
The shocking mishap has sparked outrage, prompting immediate action against the responsible officer. Authorities have pledged a comprehensive investigation into the incident, highlighting the urgency to address negligence and ensure the safety and security of individuals in police stations during routine procedures.
