In Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, security forces are engaged in an ongoing search operation following intense firing exchanges with terrorists. The confrontation took place on Sunday in the Paddar Batam Bridge area. Officials reported that the operation is still active as forces continue to search for the remaining terrorists.
The situation in Kishtwar follows a tragic encounter in the Anantnag district on Saturday, where security forces clashed with terrorists in the Ahlan Gandole area of Kokernag. This encounter resulted in the deaths of two soldiers—Havildar Dipak Kumar Yadav and Lance Naik Praveen Sharma—who were honored posthumously by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and the Indian Army for their ultimate sacrifice.
In addition to the fatalities, five individuals were injured in the Anantnag encounter, including three soldiers and two civilians. The injured have been transported to a hospital for medical treatment. The Army is currently verifying the terror affiliations of the injured civilians.
The Army’s statement revealed that on August 5, 2024, intelligence sources confirmed that terrorists involved in recent attacks in the Doda region had crossed into the Kishtwar range. Operations were launched in the mountainous area east of Kapran on the night of August 9-10, 2024, where the terrorists were believed to be hiding. The search operation faced significant challenges due to the high-altitude terrain, which is characterized by thick undergrowth, large boulders, and nallahs.
