Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko was arrested on Saturday by Kochi City North Police officials in connection with alleged drug use. The actor was later granted bail after being booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with charges under Sections 27 (consumption of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances) and 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy).
Chacko’s arrest followed a series of events that began on Friday when Kochi police served a notice to the actor, instructing him to appear for questioning regarding an incident in which he allegedly fled from a hotel during an anti-drug raid. The notice was reportedly delivered to Chacko’s family in Thrissur as he was not present at home when the police arrived.
The police investigation stems from a raid conducted by the District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) at a hotel near Kaloor on Wednesday night. Although officers were initially searching for a different suspect in a drug case, they found Chacko’s name in the hotel register. When they approached his room, the actor allegedly fled, prompting further investigation. CCTV footage from the hotel appears to show Chacko fleeing the premises upon noticing the police presence.
While no drugs were found at the hotel and no formal case was registered regarding the incident, Chacko was summoned for questioning to clarify the circumstances surrounding his escape. He appeared before the Ernakulam North Police Sub-Inspector on Saturday.
This arrest comes amidst controversy surrounding Chacko’s name being mentioned in a complaint lodged by actress Vincy Aloshious, who had earlier spoken out about “inappropriate behavior” on the set of their upcoming film, Soothravakyam. Aloshious accused Chacko of misconduct while allegedly under the influence of drugs during the shoot. However, she later expressed her willingness to withdraw the complaint after the incident gained media attention.
Chacko, who was recently in the limelight for his role in several Malayalam films, has not publicly commented on the arrest or the related allegations. His legal team is expected to continue cooperating with authorities as the investigation proceeds.
The actor has been released on bail and is expected to appear for further questioning if required by the police.
