“Sunny Deol’s Mumbai Villa Set for Auction: Bank Pursues ₹56 Crore Dues Recovery”

Bank Lists Sunny Deol's Mumbai Villa for Auction to Recover ₹56 Crore Dues

In a move to recover ₹56 crore in defaulted loans, state-owned Bank of Baroda has announced the auction of a property owned by actor and sitting BJP Member of Parliament, Sunny Deol. The e-auction, slated for August 25, aims to address the pending dues owed by the actor.

Sunny Deol, who currently represents Gurdaspur as an MP, has garnered both fame and success in the entertainment industry, with his latest film “Gaddar 2” raking in a remarkable box office collection of over ₹300 crore since its recent release. However, despite his professional achievements, Deol has reportedly been in default on a ₹55.99 crore loan from the bank, along with accumulated interest and penalties, since December 2022. The second largest state-owned lender, Bank of Baroda, disclosed this financial discrepancy in a public tender notice issued on a Sunday.

The property under consideration is Sunny Villa, situated on the prestigious Gandhigram Road in the upscale Juhu area of Mumbai. The bank has secured the property and fixed the reserve price for the upcoming auction at ₹51.43 crore, with an earnest money deposit requirement of ₹5.14 crore.

Beyond being an abode, Sunny Villa also houses Sunny Sounds, owned by the Deol family. Sunny Sounds serves as the corporate guarantor for the loan, while the actor’s father, Dharmendra, serves as the personal guarantor of the debt. The auction notice highlighted these associations. However, specific details about the loan, such as when it was availed and the additional guarantees provided, remain undisclosed by the bank.

The tender notice further emphasized that Sunny Deol and his family still have the option to settle the outstanding dues with the bank. This step would prevent the auction from being executed under the provisions of the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (Sarfaesi) Act of 2002.

Sunny Deol, whose full name is Ajay Singh Dharmendra Deol, has been an elected representative of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the Gurdaspur constituency since 2019. He secured a landslide victory in the elections, defeating the then Congress member Sunil Jhakar. Notably, the Gurdaspur seat had long been represented by veteran actor Vinod Khanna, who was associated with the Congress party.

As the auction date approaches, the fate of Sunny Villa hangs in the balance, highlighting the intersection of financial matters and public life for the popular actor and politician.
