Three Pedestrians Electrocuted in Gurugram During Heavy Rain Near Iffco Chowk Metro Station

In a tragic incident on Wednesday night, three pedestrians lost their lives after being electrocuted near Iffco Chowk metro station in Gurugram. The victims, identified as Devendra Bajpai from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, Jaipal Yadav from Nangal Chaudhary in Mahendragarh, and Wasim Zaman from Sangam Vihar in Delhi, were walking on a waterlogged footpath when they came into contact with a high-tension power cable that had snapped due to an uprooted tree.

According to police, the incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. amidst incessant rainfall. An uprooted tree fell on a power cable supplying electricity to streetlights, causing the cable to break and fall onto the flooded footpath. The trio was electrocuted while attempting to cross the area in the dark, with heavy rain contributing to the dangerous conditions.

Inspector Ravi Kumar of the DLF police station in Sector-29 reported that the police found the three bodies floating in water at the scene. The area was hazardous due to the submerged cable and tree. “A team from Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited arrived at the site only after the power supply to the area was disconnected. This allowed us to safely remove the bodies,” Kumar stated.

The bodies were discovered by commuters who alerted the police control room, but the removal was delayed until after 11:30 p.m. due to the ongoing rain and high water levels. There were concerns about the presence of a high-tension underground wire at the site, with some family members of the victims suggesting that the exposed wire, rather than the overhead cable, might have caused the electrocution.
