Tragedy struck Mumbai as Uddhav Sena leader Abhishek Ghosalkar was fatally shot in the Dahisar area on Thursday, sparking outrage and raising questions about the city’s law and order situation. Ghosalkar, a former Shiv Sena corporator and son of an ex-MLA, was rushed to Karuna Hospital in Borivali after sustaining three gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, Ghosalkar succumbed to his injuries, leaving the community in shock.
The incident occurred amidst a backdrop of heightened tension, with a recent video capturing a BJP MLA firing at an Eknath Shinde faction leader inside a police station in Ulhasnagar. This latest tragedy has further fueled concerns over the safety of public representatives and civilians in Maharashtra.
Uddhav Sena leader Sanjay Raut swiftly called for the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in response to the Mumbai firing incident. Former Maharashtra minister Aaditya Thackeray echoed these sentiments, lamenting the apparent collapse of law and order in the state.
Abhishek Ghosalkar’s association with the Uddhav Sena and his family’s long-standing involvement in politics underscore the gravity of the situation. He was not only a prominent figure within the party but also held key positions such as Chairman of the Mumbai Buildings Repairs and Reconstruction Board. Ghosalkar’s wife also served as a corporator, reflecting their deep-rooted ties to Mumbai’s political landscape.
Reports suggest that the attack occurred during a meeting with Mauris Noronha, known as Mauris Bhai, with whom Ghosalkar had a history of personal disputes. Despite recent attempts to reconcile, the confrontation turned fatal, allegedly resulting in Noronha shooting Ghosalkar before taking his own life. Shockingly, the entire incident was livestreamed on social media platform Facebook, adding a chilling dimension to the tragedy.
Uddhav Sena spokesperson Anand Dubey condemned the incident, expressing grave concerns about the safety of public representatives in Maharashtra. He questioned the government’s ability to maintain law and order, emphasizing the urgent need for accountability and action to prevent further violence.
As investigations into the shooting continue, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges facing political leaders and the pressing need for effective measures to ensure their safety and the security of all citizens.
