BJP MP Varun Gandhi has put an end to speculations by announcing that he will not contest from the Pilibhit Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming elections. Instead, he will dedicate his efforts to campaigning for his mother, Maneka Gandhi, who is contesting from the Sultanpur Lok Sabha seat.
The decision comes as nominations for the Pilibhit seat closed, confirming Varun Gandhi’s withdrawal from the race. Sources familiar with the matter revealed that he will focus on supporting his mother’s campaign in Sultanpur, where the election is scheduled to take place in the sixth phase on May 25.
Speculation arose when the BJP denied Varun Gandhi a ticket from Pilibhit, leading to discussions about his potential candidacy as an independent candidate. However, with his decision not to contest from Pilibhit, attention now shifts to his role in supporting Maneka Gandhi’s campaign.
While Varun Gandhi has not commented on his future plans, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury extended an invitation for him to join the Congress party. Chowdhury praised Varun Gandhi’s leadership qualities and clean image, suggesting that his association with the Gandhi family could be a valuable asset to the Congress.
Initially, there were discussions within the BJP about fielding Varun Gandhi from Rae Bareli. However, it appears that he was not interested in contesting from that constituency, leading to his decision to step back from the Pilibhit seat.
As the political landscape evolves, Varun Gandhi’s decision and potential future moves continue to be topics of interest and speculation among political observers and party members.
