Gaurav Taneja, popularly known as Flying Beast on YouTube, recently expressed his disappointment over the frequent power cuts in Gurugram, Haryana. The renowned content creator, who recently shifted from Delhi to Gurugram, took to social media to voice his concerns, describing the power cuts in the area as “terrible.” His remarks caught the attention of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who responded by highlighting the reliable electricity supply in Delhi.
Gaurav Taneja is a well-known figure in the Indian YouTube community and operates three successful channels, namely Flying Beast, Fit Muscle TV, and Rasbhari Ke Papa. He has collaborated with various influential personalities such as Technical Guruji, Mumbiker Nikhil, and Slay Point. Taneja has also expanded his horizons by collaborating with renowned Bollywood actors like Ajay Devgn, Tiger Shroff, and R. Madhavan.
The power cuts in Gurugram have been a cause of concern for Taneja, who expressed his frustration on Twitter, stating, “We have just moved to Gurugram from Delhi. The power cuts here are terrible.” His tweet drew the attention of Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, who responded by saying, “Delhi is the best…”
Kejriwal’s remark comes at a time when power distribution companies in Delhi have been allowed to increase electricity tariffs. The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) recently approved a cost-reflective tariff hike for the current financial year. This decision permits BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) to charge an additional 9.42 percent, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) 6.39 percent, and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) 2 percent on top of the existing rates. Notably, electricity rates in Delhi have remained unchanged since 2014.
However, the Delhi NCT administration has assured consumers that the tariff hike will not impact those who receive free electricity up to 200 units. For other consumers, an approximately 8 percent surcharge will be applicable. Delhi Minister Atishi placed blame on the central government for the power tariff increase in the national capital.
The contrasting experiences of power supply between Gurugram and Delhi have sparked a discussion about the state of electricity infrastructure in different regions.
