In a significant development, Congress national spokesperson Rohan Gupta has resigned from the party’s primary membership and all other posts, citing “constant humiliation” and “character assassination” by a senior leader connected to the Communications department. This move comes as a setback for the Congress party ahead of the parliamentary elections.
Mr. Gupta, who had been nominated for a Lok Sabha ticket from the Ahmedabad East seat by the Congress, withdrew from the race on Monday due to his father’s ill health. In his resignation letter addressed to party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Gupta expressed deep pain over the continuous humiliation he faced, especially during a personal crisis.
The former spokesperson stated, “I am deeply pained to inform you that constant humiliation and character assassination by one of the senior leaders connected to the Communications department of the party for the last two years… has compelled me to take this decision.” He added that the behavior of the senior leader had caused him serious mental agony and stress, leading to his decision to resign from the party.
In a separate post on social media, Gupta emphasized that his resignation was necessary to protect his self-respect. He mentioned a “systematic conspiracy” against him and criticized the party’s silence on issues related to Sanatan Dharma, which he believed damaged the party’s image and morale.
Mr. Gupta also revealed that his decision to withdraw from the Ahmedabad East Lok Sabha seat was influenced by his father’s reluctance and opposition to his candidature. Despite his desire to contest, his father’s health concerns and objections led to his withdrawal from the electoral race.
