West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has taken an unusual step in response to serious allegations leveled against him. A contractual employee of Raj Bhavan accused him of molestation, prompting Governor Bose to show CCTV footage to members of the public.
The incident unfolded when a contractual employee lodged a complaint with the Kolkata Police, alleging that she was molested by Governor CV Ananda Bose on two occasions, April 24 and May 2, within the premises of Raj Bhavan.
In a move to address these allegations, Governor Bose invited individuals to view CCTV footage from two cameras positioned at the main gate of Raj Bhavan on May 2, around 5:30 pm. This footage was shown to a select group of individuals at the Central Marble Hall on the ground floor of Raj Bhavan.
Governor Bose’s decision to show the footage to the public came after he expressed his intention to do so on Wednesday, specifically excluding “politician” Mamata Banerjee and “her” police from the viewing.
The CCTV footage, spanning over an hour, captured the moments leading up to the alleged incident. It showed the woman, dressed in blue jeans and a top, proceeding to the police outpost amidst a significant presence of policemen due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Raj Bhavan on May 2.
Despite receiving interest from 92 individuals who expressed a desire to view the footage, only a few actually attended the viewing. One visitor, identified as Professor Tushar Kanti Mukherjee, noted that he did not observe any abnormal behavior from the woman in the footage.
A Raj Bhavan official mentioned that the purpose of showing the footage was to allow people to make their own judgments regarding the incident.
