Actor Sahil Khan’s attempt to evade arrest in the Mahadev betting app case took him on a dramatic journey spanning nearly 1,800 km across five states in just four days. However, his cross-country adventure came to an abrupt halt when he was apprehended in Chhattisgarh’s Jagdalpur.
Khan’s escapade began on April 25 after his anticipatory bail plea was denied. He fled Maharashtra, made a brief stop in Goa, continued to Karnataka’s Hubballi, and then headed to Hyderabad. Throughout the journey, Khan disguised himself to avoid detection, but authorities tracked him to Hyderabad, prompting his rush to Chhattisgarh.
Despite traveling through challenging routes, including a Maoist-prone area, Khan was eventually located and arrested at the Aradhya International Hotel in Jagdalpur. The Mumbai police’s relentless pursuit over 72 hours led to his capture, accompanied by the seizure of mobile phones and cash.
Khan’s alleged involvement in promoting betting platforms linked to the Mahadev app led to his interrogation by the Mumbai Crime Branch. Police claim he endorsed platforms like Lion Book and Lotus 24/7, connected to Mahadev, and profited from these ventures. He has been remanded in custody until May 1.
Operated by individuals from Chhattisgarh and Dubai, the Mahadev app lured users with paid ads on social media for betting on sports events. Celebrities like Ranbir Kapoor and Tamannaah Bhatia were also questioned for promoting the app. Accounts on the app were manipulated to benefit the company, resulting in significant losses for users.
Khan’s arrest highlights the legal crackdown on illegal betting activities and the extensive efforts undertaken to enforce accountability in such cases. The Mahadev app scandal continues to unfold, shedding light on the complexities of online gambling and its repercussions on individuals and the legal system.
