“Arvind Kejriwal Granted Bail in Liquor Policy Case After Skipping Summons”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been granted bail by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court after skipping probe agency summons related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. He was required to furnish a personal bond of ₹15,000 and a security bond of ₹1 lakh for the bail.

Kejriwal violated Section 174 of the Indian Penal Code by disobeying the Enforcement Directorate’s repeated summons regarding the excise policy scam. The court summoned him after the ED informed about his failure to appear for eight summons under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Kejriwal will not need to appear in person for the next hearing scheduled for April 1. He accused the Narendra Modi government of using central agencies to target opposition leaders, calling the summons “illegal.”

The ED had summoned Kejriwal for questioning on March 4, but he opted for video-conferencing, which the agency rejected, insisting on physical appearance. Notably, other AAP leaders like Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh have been arrested by the ED in a money laundering case related to Delhi’s excise policy.

The ED’s charge sheets indicated Kejriwal’s involvement, alleging that he was in contact with the accused during the formulation of the excise policy. The case has drawn attention amid political tensions and discussions on the use of central agencies for targeting opposition figures.
