“Congress Leadership Advises Unity to Confront ‘Dictatorial Government’ and Avoid Media Controversy”

"Sonia Gandhi Advises Restraint to Contain Congress Infighting; Party Calls for Unity to 'Overthrow Dictatorial Government'"

In the midst of internal challenges and preparations for the upcoming national election, the Indian National Congress (INC) leadership convened for a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Hyderabad. During this meeting, Sonia Gandhi, the party’s national chief, provided advice on maintaining discipline within the party to prevent internal strife, while Mallikarjun Kharge, another senior leader, called for unity to confront what the party characterizes as a “dictatorial government.”

Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized the importance of staying connected with citizens at all levels and actively listening to their concerns. He highlighted the challenges faced by ordinary citizens during the past decade under the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) rule and criticized the Prime Minister’s perceived detachment from the issues affecting various segments of society.

“In such circumstances, we cannot remain mute spectators. We must unite and overthrow this dictatorial government in order to save our democracy,” Mr. Kharge asserted during the CWC meeting.

Sonia Gandhi, while addressing party leaders, urged them to exercise self-restraint and refrain from making statements to the media that could harm the interests of the Congress. The party has already taken a step in this direction by releasing a list of journalists and media organizations with which it will no longer engage.

Kharge underscored the need for prioritizing the party’s success over personal interests and emphasized the importance of unity and discipline. He cited the example of Karnataka, where unity and discipline within the party led to success.

The Congress is currently part of the newly formed Opposition bloc INDIA, which aims to challenge the ruling BJP in the upcoming elections. However, the BJP has criticized this coalition, highlighting internal rivalries among its member parties. The CWC, comprising 39 regular members, 32 permanent invitees, and 13 special invitees, including 15 women and several new faces, discussed strategies and the path forward during this crucial meeting.

BJP chief JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah have criticized the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA), with Nadda accusing them of engaging in scams and Shah alleging denigration of “Sanatana Dharma” by the INDIA coalition. The political landscape in India remains dynamic as parties gear up for the upcoming election battle.
