Eight Dead, 13 Injured in SUV-Truck Crash in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi

8 Killed, 13 Injured in SUV-Truck Collision in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi

A tragic road accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district claimed the lives of eight people and left 13 others injured after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) collided head-on with a truck early Monday morning, police said.

The accident occurred around 2:30 am near the Upni petrol pump on the Sidhi-Bahri Road. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gayatri Tiwari, the SUV, carrying members of a family, was headed towards Maihar, while the truck was traveling towards Bahri from Sidhi when the two vehicles crashed into each other.

Seven people in the SUV died on the spot, while 14 others sustained injuries. Among them, nine critically injured were referred to Rewa for advanced medical treatment, where one more person succumbed to injuries, raising the death toll to eight, said Sidhi Superintendent of Police (SP) Ravindra Verma. The remaining injured are being treated at the Sidhi district hospital.

Police have detained the truck driver and launched an investigation into the accident. Preliminary findings suggest that the SUV may have been coming from the wrong direction, leading to the collision, SP Verma added.

The victims were reportedly traveling to Maihar for the ‘mundan’ (tonsure) ceremony of a child when the incident occurred.

Following the tragic accident, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his condolences and announced financial assistance for the victims’ families. “Instructions have been given to approve a financial aid of ₹2 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives, ₹1 lakh each to the seriously injured, and ₹50,000 each to other injured persons from the Chief Minister’s discretionary fund,” CM Yadav stated.

A special investigation team, led by an additional superintendent of police, has been formed to probe the accident from all possible angles.

This incident adds to the growing concern over road safety in India, where high-speed collisions and reckless driving continue to cause tragic accidents. Authorities urge drivers to maintain caution and follow traffic regulations to prevent such mishaps.
