“Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra CM, Launches Mumbai’s Coastal Road Project”

Maharashtra Chief Minister Inaugurates Mumbai Coastal Road Project

In a significant milestone for Mumbai’s infrastructure, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, alongside Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, inaugurated the Mumbai Coastal Road Project on Monday. Officially named the Dharmveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road, this ambitious endeavor aims to enhance connectivity and alleviate traffic congestion along the city’s coastal stretch.

The inauguration ceremony marked the opening of the south-bound arm and a substantial portion, totaling 9.5 kilometers, of the 10.58-kilometer high-speed corridor to public traffic. Commencing Tuesday morning, motorists will have access to this newly constructed thoroughfare, albeit with restrictions. Traffic movement will be permitted only between 8 am and 8 pm on weekdays, as 15 percent of the project remains unfinished. To expedite the completion process, contractors will conduct work during nights and weekends.

Access to the coastal road will be facilitated through Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk on Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road (Worli Seaface), leading motorists through an underwater tunnel and enabling them to reach the Princess Street flyover within eight minutes, traveling at a speed of 80 km/h.

During the initial phase, only one arm of each interchange — located at Haji Ali, Worli, and Amarsons — will be operational. This phased approach ensures the smooth implementation of the project while minimizing disruptions to traffic flow.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde highlighted the project’s commitment to environmental sustainability, emphasizing the creation of a sprawling green area spanning over 70 acres. This green expanse will seamlessly integrate with the existing Racecourse green open space, covering an area of 120 acres, enhancing the city’s ecological footprint and providing residents with rejuvenating recreational spaces.

The Mumbai Coastal Road Project represents a significant stride towards addressing the city’s infrastructure challenges and fostering sustainable urban development. As construction progresses and additional phases are completed, Mumbai stands poised to reap the benefits of enhanced connectivity, reduced travel times, and a greener urban landscape.
