“FIR Filed Against Rahul Gandhi-Led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam Over Route Deviation”

"FIR Registered Against Rahul Gandhi-Led 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in Assam Over Alleged Route Deviation"

In an unexpected turn of events, an FIR has been lodged against the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,’ led by Rahul Gandhi, and its chief organizer KB Byju in Assam. The legal action was taken due to the alleged deviation from the permitted route inside Jorhat town, causing a chaotic situation and a stampede-like scenario, as reported by police officials.

The incident occurred when the march, named ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,’ took a different turn in Jorhat town instead of following the approved path towards KB Road. This deviation resulted in a sudden rush of people, leading to some individuals falling and creating disorder in the area. Subsequently, a suo motu FIR (First Information Report) has been registered at Jorhat Sadar Police Station against the Yatra and its chief organizer.

According to the official statement, the FIR highlighted that the Yatra failed to adhere to the norms set by the district administration and violated road safety regulations during the procession.

Reacting to the FIR, Leader of the Opposition, Debabrata Saikia, suggested that it was a strategic move to impede the Yatra’s progress. Saikia mentioned the lack of police presence to manage traffic diversion at the PWD point, asserting that the assigned route was too small for the large gathering. He accused Himanta Biswa Sarma of fearing the Yatra’s success on its first day in Assam and attempting to disrupt its momentum.

The ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,’ spearheaded by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, commenced its journey from Manipur on January 14 and is scheduled to conclude in Mumbai on March 20. The Assam leg of the march will continue until January 25, covering a total distance of 833 km across 17 districts.

The ambitious Yatra plans to traverse 6,713 km in 67 days, passing through 110 districts in 15 states. Despite the recent legal setback, the Yatra aims to continue its mission of connecting with the public and addressing social justice issues as it progresses through various regions of the country.
