Students at an engineering college in Banka, Bihar, were shocked to discover a dead snake in the food served at the college canteen. This discovery led to at least 11 students falling ill and requiring hospitalization due to symptoms of nausea and vomiting, as reported by The Times of India. Fortunately, the students are now said to be in stable condition.
The alarming incident came to light after a picture of the meal, with a snake-like creature in it, surfaced on social media, sparking widespread concern among students and the public. The college administration swiftly responded to the situation by taking several measures to address the issue.
In response to the incident, the college administration immediately changed the food vendor and imposed fines on the accused party. Additionally, as a precautionary measure, the administration made it mandatory for the principal and teachers to dine with students every day, ensuring closer supervision and accountability in food service.
This incident is part of a recent string of food safety concerns across India. Just days ago in Mumbai, a doctor reported finding a piece of a human finger in their butterscotch ice cream cone, which they had ordered online. The incident prompted a police complaint and legal action under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Following this complaint, authorities investigated the manufacturing facilities involved and took necessary regulatory actions. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) suspended the license of the company responsible for the contaminated ice cream, emphasizing the importance of stringent food safety protocols.
Similarly, in Noida, a woman discovered a centipede in an ice cream tub she ordered through an instant delivery app, further highlighting the need for rigorous quality control and consumer protection measures in the food industry.
