“India Assures Safety of Citizens in Israel Amid Missile Attack Concerns”

In the wake of a missile attack carried out by Hezbollah in support of Hamas, India has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens in Israel. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) responded to the tragic death of an Indian national and injuries to two others, emphasizing the need to prioritize the well-being of Indian expatriates residing in the region.

Pat Nibin Maxwell, hailing from Kerala, tragically lost his life when a missile launched from Lebanon struck an orchard in Galilee, northern Israel, on March 4. As a response to this unfortunate incident, the Indian embassy in Israel issued advisories urging Indian nationals, especially those situated in border areas of north and south Israel, to relocate to safer zones.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal underscored the significance of the safety and security of the vast Indian community in Israel, comprising over 18,000 caregivers and professionals. He stated, “Their safety and security are of prime concern for us,” highlighting the embassy’s proactive measures in ensuring their protection. The embassy has established a helpline to assist Indian nationals in need, along with issuing safety advisories to exercise caution and remain in secure areas.

Addressing inquiries about Israel’s purported recruitment of Indian workers from certain Indian states to replace Palestinian laborers in the aftermath of the Israel-Hamas conflict, Jaiswal mentioned that the government-to-government agreement on this matter is still under consideration.

India, meanwhile, has urged the international community to prevent the escalation of the conflict in Gaza beyond the region’s borders. Emphasizing the importance of a two-state solution, India advocates for a resolution where Palestinian people can live securely within defined borders.
