“ISIS India Chief Haris Farooqi and Aide Arrested in Assam’s Dhubri: Major Counterterrorism Operation Success”

In a significant breakthrough, the Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) has successfully apprehended the ISIS India chief, Haris Farooqi, and one of his associates who were on the National Investigation Agency’s most wanted list. The arrest took place after they illegally entered Assam’s Dhubri from neighboring Bangladesh.

According to sources within the STF, intelligence agencies had received information about two members of ISIS in India planning to carry out sabotage activities upon entering India through the Dhubri Sector. Haris Farooqi, also known as Harish Ajmal Faruqi, identified as the head of ISIS in India, and his associate Rehan were captured in a major operation led by a team of the Special Task Force headed by Inspector General of Police Parthasarathi Mahanta.

The operation, launched based on credible information, culminated in the arrest of the terrorists in the Dharmasala area of Dhubri early in the morning after they crossed the international border between India and Bangladesh. The STF stated that the duo had been advancing the cause of ISIS in India through activities such as recruitment, terror funding, and planning terror acts using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in various locations across the country.

Authorities have revealed that several cases are pending against Haris Farooqi and his associate at the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Delhi, as well as at Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS) in Lucknow and other places. The STF, Assam, will be handing over the accused to the NIA for further legal proceedings.
