“Leopard in Bengaluru Shot Dead During Capture”

Leopard, Spotted In Bengaluru For Days, Shot Dead During Capture Attempt

A leopard that had been wandering the streets of Bengaluru for several days has tragically met its end during a capture operation. The feline’s journey came to a devastating conclusion after it was injured during the rescue attempt, which involved firing shots to neutralize the animal.

The leopard’s presence in Bengaluru had sparked concern among residents and authorities alike. After it injured forest officials during the capture operation, the decision was made to use lethal force, which ultimately led to the big cat’s demise.

Lingraja, the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) for the Bangalore Circle, explained the situation, saying, “The leopard attacked Dr. Kiran and one more officer. They sustained grievous injuries. The Chief Wildlife Warden had granted permission to open fire to neutralize the wild cat.”

The leopard had first been spotted on a Saturday night in the Singasandra area, situated near Electronic City in Bengaluru. CCTV footage captured the leopard being pursued by two stray dogs in the Singasandra locality, prompting immediate action from forest officials and the police.

In response to the video evidence, the forest department had deployed teams and set up four cages in an effort to safely capture the elusive leopard.

On October 29, the big cat was observed entering an apartment in the Kudlu area, according to news agency PTI. The Singasandra area, where the leopard was initially sighted, is in close proximity to Bengaluru’s renowned Bannerghatta National Park.

The incident highlights the complex challenges associated with managing wildlife in urban areas and underscores the importance of public safety and the well-being of both animals and humans in such situations.

The untimely death of the roaming leopard serves as a somber reminder of the delicate balance between wildlife conservation and the need to ensure the safety of residents in metropolitan regions.
