Incident Details
The teacher, employed at the Government Girls PG College in Rewa, was seen in an inebriated state near the Civil Lines police station and the Peeli Kothi compound. In the viral video, he appears disoriented, falling repeatedly and even lying in the middle of the road, seemingly unaware of his surroundings.
Passersby, assuming he was unwell, called an ambulance for assistance. However, upon medical inspection, it was revealed that he was not sick but severely drunk.
College Principal’s Response
The college’s principal, Vibha Shrivastava, confirmed that the man was a contractual teacher and was currently on a break, as is common practice for such hires. She stated that the issue would be raised with the hiring committee.
“I will take up this issue before Pragya Tripathi, the chairperson of the public committee for hiring, on April 1,” she told PTI.
She also clarified that the incident did not occur on campus and that contractual teachers at the college are hired on a merit basis for a few months through public participation by a committee.
The viral video has sparked discussions on social media, with many questioning the conduct of educators and the accountability of contractual hiring processes.
