“Mamata Banerjee Marches with Sandeshkhali Women “

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to the streets of Kolkata today, leading a rally of women supporters in a demonstration of solidarity and empowerment. This comes in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks targeting the Trinamool Congress over the Sandeshkhali issue, a hotbed of controversy in the state.

Notably, the rally saw the participation of women from Sandeshkhali island in North 24 Parganas district, where serious allegations against local Trinamool leaders have made headlines. Under the theme “Mahilader Adhikar, Amader Angikar” (women’s rights, our commitment), the march symbolized a strong assertion of women’s empowerment.

Accompanied by prominent Trinamool leaders including Sushmita Dev, Shashi Panja, and journalist-turned-politician Sagarika Ghose, Mamata Banerjee’s march showcased the party’s unwavering commitment to women’s issues. Also joining the rally was Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress and Mamata Banerjee’s nephew.

Addressing the gathering, Mamata Banerjee refuted the BJP’s allegations of women being unsafe in Bengal, asserting that the state prioritizes the safety and security of its women. She also took a dig at the BJP, highlighting instances of violence against women in other states where the BJP is in power.

The timing of the rally, a day ahead of International Women’s Day, underscores the significance of women’s empowerment in West Bengal’s political landscape. With women voters constituting a key support base for the Trinamool Congress, Mamata Banerjee has been instrumental in implementing various schemes aimed at their welfare.

The Sandeshkhali episode, which has stirred political turmoil in the state, featured prominently in PM Modi’s recent criticism of the Trinamool government. However, Mamata Banerjee’s swift response through today’s rally signals her determination to counter the BJP’s narrative and retain the support of women voters.

In response to PM Modi’s remarks, Trinamool leader Derek O’Brien posed questions about BJP’s record on women’s representation and handling of cases of crimes against women. This tit-for-tat exchange reflects the escalating political tension between the two parties ahead of the upcoming state elections.

As Mamata Banerjee marches alongside women from Sandeshkhali, the Trinamool Congress sends a clear message of solidarity and resilience in the face of political challenges, reaffirming its commitment to championing women’s rights in West Bengal.
