In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves across the nation, a video surfaced on May 4, depicting two women being paraded naked in Manipur amid ethnic violence. Responding to the distressing visuals, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is also the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), strongly condemned the act and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to pay immediate attention to the situation and ensure the strictest possible action against those responsible.
“The incident in Manipur is very shameful and condemnable. This kind of heinous act cannot be tolerated in Indian society,” Mr. Kejriwal expressed in a tweet in Hindi, expressing his deep concern and dismay over the tragic incident.
The AAP’s Raghav Chadha also voiced his dismay at the situation, questioning the silence of the BJP-led state government in Manipur and the apparent focus on unrelated matters by the BJP-led Central Government. The party highlighted the urgency of the matter, as the perpetrators of the horrific crime continue to roam free, causing anguish and fear among the citizens.
The video from Kangpokpi district in B Phainom Village showcases the two women being subjected to constant molestation and eventually gang-raped after their entire village was burned down. The AAP has unequivocally condemned the “horrifying and continued ordeal of the helpless people of Manipur,” criticizing the lack of action by both the State and Central governments in addressing the grave issue.
In an appeal to the Prime Minister, the AAP called for immediate intervention to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety and security of the people in Manipur. The party asserted that turning a blind eye to the problem would not make it go away, urging the government to act promptly and decisively.
“The Aam Aadmi Party is ready and willing to assist in any manner the central government may deem fit,” the statement read, emphasizing their commitment to supporting measures aimed at ending such atrocities.
While expressing their solidarity with the victims and their families, the AAP urged all citizens to refrain from sharing the graphic video, which only adds to the humiliation and distress of the affected women.
