A significant breakthrough in drug enforcement has emerged as investigators uncover a staggering 970 kg of mephedrone, colloquially known as “Meow Meow,” concealed in makeshift godowns in south Delhi. The seizure, valued at over ₹3,000 crore, sheds light on the illicit drug trade infiltrating the national capital and Pune.
The operation, which also led to the seizure of 1,700 kg of mephedrone in total across Delhi and Pune, has resulted in the arrest of eight individuals following multiple raids in both cities. The rented godowns in south Delhi, secured for a mere ₹10,000 each under the guise of trading salt, served as storage hubs for the banned substance.
Investigators have initiated inquiries to trace the origins of the drug’s entry into Delhi and determine the quantity distributed to local drug dealers. A West Bengal-native is identified as having rented two separate rooms in Kotla Mubarakpur and Masjid Moth areas of Hauz Khas in south Delhi for the storage of the illicit substance.
The collaboration between Delhi Police and Pune Police’s Crime Branch facilitated joint raids following arrests made in Pune related to narcotics offenses. Information gleaned from these arrests prompted the raid in Kotla Mubarakpur, resulting in the seizure of approximately 300 kg of mephedrone and the arrest of two additional individuals.
Further investigations led to the discovery of another 600 kg of mephedrone concealed in a rented shop in Masjid Moth, Hauz Khas. Mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant known for its association with rave party culture due to its euphoric effects, has been a growing concern for law enforcement agencies.
The combined value of the seizures in Pune and Delhi stands at an estimated ₹3,500 crore, underscoring the scale of the illicit drug trade. With the formation of multiple investigative teams, authorities are intensifying efforts to uncover local drug suppliers and strengthen vigilance against such illegal activities.
This significant bust marks a crucial milestone in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking, highlighting the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies to dismantle criminal networks and safeguard communities from the detrimental effects of narcotics proliferation.
