Punjabi Actress Sonia Mann Joins Aam Aadmi Party in Presence of Arvind Kejriwal

Punjabi Actress Sonia Mann Joins Aam Aadmi Party in Presence of Arvind Kejriwal

Punjabi actress Sonia Mann, daughter of Kirti Kisan Union leader Baldev Singh, officially joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday. The announcement was made in the presence of AAP chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

AAP’s Punjab unit welcomed Mann into the party through a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Kirti Kisan Union leader S Baldev Singh Ji’s daughter and Punjabi actress Sonia Mann joined Aam Aadmi Party under the leadership of National Convener Arvind Kejriwal. She is very welcome in the Aam Aadmi Party family.”

Sonia Mann’s Film Career and Political Entry

Mann has been a well-known figure in the Punjabi film industry and has also worked in Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, and Marathi films. She made her acting debut with the 2012 Malayalam film Hide n Seek and later starred in Bollywood films like Kahin Hai Mera Pyar (2014) and Happy Hardy and Heer (2020).

Beyond her film career, Mann is also recognized for her association with Punjabi music, having collaborated with popular singers, including the late Sidhu Moose Wala in 2018.

    Political Legacy and Family Background

Mann’s father, Baldev Singh, was a prominent farm leader and activist who was assassinated by Khalistani militants in the 1980s. Her political association with AAP aligns with her family’s history of activism and public service.

Kejriwal’s Punjab Strategy Ahead of 2027 Polls

Arvind Kejriwal has been actively focusing on strengthening AAP’s Punjab unit following the party’s heavy defeat in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. After ruling Delhi for 13 years, AAP was ousted from power as Kejriwal himself lost the New Delhi constituency to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Parvesh Verma.

With the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections two years away, AAP is looking to consolidate its position in the state. The induction of prominent regional figures like Sonia Mann is seen as part of the party’s efforts to solidify its support base in Punjab.
