Three Elephants Found Dead in Assam’s Manas National Park, Poaching Suspected

In a disturbing development, forest officials in Assam’s Manas National Park discovered the carcasses of three wild elephants near the India-Bhutan border on Friday. The bodies were found in the Palengshi Beat area of the Panbari range, located in the western zone of the park.

While the cause of death has not yet been confirmed, authorities suspect poaching may be involved. “It is suspected that poachers have killed the elephants, but all aspects are being investigated,” an official told reporters. The ongoing inquiry aims to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The forest department has begun post-mortem examinations of the elephants, which are being conducted on-site in the forest. The last rites will follow after the forensic procedures are completed.

Manas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is known for its rich biodiversity and is home to several endangered species, including the Asian elephant. The incident has sparked renewed concerns over wildlife protection in the region, especially near border areas prone to illegal activities.

Officials have not released any further details regarding suspects or arrests at this stage, but emphasized that a thorough probe is underway.
