A tragic road accident occurred on Mumbai’s Senapati Bapat flyover on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the death of two people when a black-and-yellow taxi and an SUV collided head-on.
The accident took place at around 1:15 pm when a Mahindra SUV, traveling towards Bandra, crashed into a Santro taxi heading towards Chinchpokli. The collision led to the immediate deaths of the taxi driver and a female passenger. The police have detained the SUV driver for further investigation.
Horrifying visuals from the accident site revealed the extent of the impact, with the front portion of the taxi completely destroyed. The female passenger was seen partially hanging out of the car window due to the impact. The SUV also suffered severe damage, with a crushed bonnet, shattered windshield, and deflated airbags.
Emergency responders, including the police and ambulance services, rushed to the scene. The accident brought traffic to a standstill on the usually busy flyover.
Similar Incident in Navi Mumbai
In a separate incident, a 64-year-old security guard lost his life in a tragic accident involving a lifter machine at a shipping container yard in Navi Mumbai’s Uran area on March 19.
The victim, identified as Eknath Ragho Patil, was on duty when the lifter machine, operated by 24-year-old Mohammad Aslam Jaish Mohammad Khan, ran over him. According to police, Aslam lost control of the machine in the poorly lit yard, failing to notice Patil’s presence. The victim suffered severe injuries to his head and body and succumbed on the spot.
Authorities are investigating both incidents, with safety measures and road conditions coming under scrutiny following these fatal accidents.
