“Woman in UP Detained for Requesting Time Bomb Production with Bottles, Police Say”

The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police has apprehended a woman in connection with an alarming case involving the preparation of time bombs using glass bottles. The arrest comes days after the arrest of a man named Javed, who was reportedly caught with such improvised explosive devices (IEDs) while on his way to deliver them to the woman.

Identified as Imrana, a resident of Muzaffarnagar district, the woman allegedly solicited Javed to manufacture time bombs. Javed, who was taken into custody by the STF earlier, was intercepted while en route to hand over four such bombs to Imrana, according to STF officials.

Reports suggest that Imrana cited the 2013 communal riots, during which her house was purportedly damaged, as the reason for her request for the bombs. She allegedly disclosed to STF officials that she had previously stored similar bombs in her residence, subsequently distributing them to others.

In a statement issued by the police, it was revealed that Javed, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, had crafted the time bombs using glass bottles packed with gunpowder, iron pellets, cotton, and other materials. He purportedly sourced glucose bottles from doctors and iron pellets from cycle shops to assemble these explosive devices.

Amitabh Yash, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) and ADG of STF, confirmed the recovery of four timer bottle bombs (IEDs) from Javed’s possession. The STF’s swift action prevented the potential detonation of these dangerous devices.

Following the arrests, a bomb disposal squad safely neutralized the bombs recovered from Javed. Investigations revealed that Imrana had allegedly provided Javed with an advance payment of ₹10,000 for the manufacturing of the bombs, with a promised sum of ₹40,000 upon delivery.

Javed admitted to acquiring knowledge on bomb-making techniques from various sources, including his uncle Arshi, a firecracker maker, and online platforms such as YouTube.

Both Imrana and Javed face charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Explosive Substances Act. The incident has once again highlighted concerns regarding the proliferation of improvised explosive devices and the need for robust law enforcement measures to combat such threats.
