A wave of alarm swept through Bengaluru as 44 private schools in the city were targeted with bomb threats via email, leading to a swift response from law enforcement authorities. The threatening emails, received on Friday morning, claimed the placement of explosives within the school premises, instigating immediate panic and safety measures.

Upon notification, the police swiftly sprang into action, initiating comprehensive searches across the schools to detect any potential threats. Bomb disposal squads were dispatched to various locations, including Whitefield, Koremangala, Basveshnagar, Yalahanka, and Sadashivanagar, as authorities conducted thorough sweeps for suspicious items.

Despite the evacuation of students and staff from the affected schools, no suspicious objects have been recovered thus far, emphasizing the meticulous yet cautious approach of the police in handling the situation.

Karnataka’s Home Minister G Parmeshwar underscored the seriousness of the threat, urging a prioritized investigation into the email’s source. Bengaluru’s Police Commissioner, B Dyanand, assured the public of their rigorous efforts to identify and trace the perpetrators behind the threats, emphasizing the gravity of the situation despite initial suspicions of it being a hoax.

In response to the incident, some schools issued advisories to parents, emphasizing the immediate dispersal of students for safety reasons. Assuring parents, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urged calm, stressing the implementation of precautionary security measures.

The incident caught the attention of Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who expressed concern over the situation affecting schools, including one in close proximity to his residence. He assured the public of the ongoing investigation by authorities and urged caution while addressing parental concerns.

City Police Commissioner B Dayananda reassured the public, citing past instances of similar threats being hoaxes. However, he emphasized the ongoing verification efforts by the police while urging citizens not to succumb to panic.

This incident echoes a past occurrence in Bengaluru, where seven schools received similar bomb threats, which were later deemed hoaxes by authorities. The current investigation aims to identify and apprehend the culprits behind these threats, ensuring the safety and security of educational institutions in the city.
