In a recent incident, a private chartered aircraft arriving from Vishakhapatnam crash-landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai. The co-pilot of the Learjet 45, Neil Diwan (21), who suffered critical injuries, underwent spine surgery at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Andheri West. Hospital staff reported that Diwan was paralyzed below the waist and required extensive rehabilitation.

The pilot in command, Captain Sunil Kanjarbhat (46), also sustained multiple injuries, including abrasions to the chest wall and spine, along with a scalp hematoma. Both pilots were trapped in the cockpit, requiring the Mumbai Fire Brigade to cut it open for their rescue. The aircraft, bearing the registration VT-DBL and owned by VSR Ventures, had taken off from Vizag and veered off the runway during touchdown in Mumbai.

The aircraft had eight people on board, including executives from Mumbai-based shipping company J M Baxi and Co., and MD Dhruv Kotak, who sustained injuries to his arm and head. The DGCA has launched an investigation into the incident, which disrupted airport operations, causing flight diversions, cancellations, and delays.

As the investigation continues, the cause of the crash and the extent of injuries to the passengers and crew will be further examined.
